Regional LD Champion – James Dash
I started work as a Learning Disability Champion for Communication with Pembrokeshire County Council in October 2018 which has been very rewarding for me and it has given more confidence with what is needed for the job.
I have taken part in interviews for jobs with Pembrokeshire County Council, asking questions and giving opinions on who was best for the job.
I have been involved with an Easy Read Group which have put together an Easy Read Bus timetables for Pembrokeshire and I have also been trained on 104 + signs which has helped me progress with my job, also I have had ASC training where people with Autism give the training and tell us their stories.
I am the chair for Dream Team which has put together an LD Charter where the Dream Team give talks to various groups and organisations then ask them to sign up to it. The Dream Team are put together from 3 counties of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.
The LD Charter was launched at the Pembrokeshire County Show 2019 and launched by Julie Morgan MS for Health & Social Care who bought with the First Minister of Wales Mark Drakeford and they both signed the charter. The charter has been taken to Ministry Advisory Group for LD.
We also run every other meeting of RILP (Regional Improving Lives Partnership) where set the agenda a week or before and must keep to if anything brought up in the meeting that not the on agenda it will be moved to the next meeting.
I am part a Monitoring group of Dream Team who look at each project and give our opinions and then I give that feedback to the RILP Business Meeting.
The Dream Team have won an NHS Wales Cymru award for Empowerment for LD Charter.
